Mug Shot

I was never good with talking about myself, but let’s start with one of my favorite lines and let’s see how it goes.

“When I was young I thought the moon followed me.”

The Donald Trump Sideswept HairI read that phrase in a NY Post article a few years ago and somehow it stayed in that comfortable corner in my mind. And no, it doesn’t hold any significance in my life whatsoever, I just liked the way it sounded. The same way I’m partial to particular memories of childhood where I was onboard a fast moving vehicle and I thought the trees we passed by ran a lot slower than the car I was in. I clearly (and weirdly, I might add) remember staring in pity and disbelief at those trees that were left behind.

Oh. As is the story of my life, once again, I digress.

I was uprooted from Manila two days shy of my 18th birthday, the supposed age when  girls that side of the world become young ladies. Blech. Until then, I have never gone on a place farther than a few miles from my family’s house on my own. And no, I am the farthest thing from being spoiled and my family has no ill-gotten wealth to speak of. To say the least, I was just scared shitless going anywhere farther than my comfort zone alone. You can just imagine my horror, when from mere miles I was transported to the other side of the world and  traveled by my lonesome self.

It’s been more than a decade in the big, bad city and i’m still in the roller coaster ride.

What do you know, perhaps the moon has been following me all along.

I love to eat, cook, travel and read. In no particular order.

Hi Arnel! Pleasant surprise, thanks for visiting!

nice page design :)

thanks jun29!

I don’t normally leave a message on other people’s blogsites…it’s a bit strange, I think especially if you don’t even know who I am.

I found your blog through other people’s sites. Anyway, I just have to say that your blog is bar none THE funniest, most down-to-earth blog read. Kwela! Your pinoy humour makes me miss the Philippines even more. However well-versed one is on the English language, masarap pa rin makipag-away in tagalog!

*palakpak tenga*

hi weng! buti na lang nag-leave ka ng message, kung hindi… I KEEEDD! :D

maraming salamat sa pagbisita! next time let me know where i can bug you with comments of my own! :)

so what made you move to NYC at the age of almost-18?

Hi Kat! We were petitioned to come here, so it was not really my decision. Back then, I wasn’t fully aware of what the pros (and cons) of our move was- all i know was I was going to the US and live here, for good. I didnt think too much of it before, but now I guess I understand why families, and people in general migrate. Im glad we did, it opened my eyes to things I never bothered to know before.

oh wow. so did you move to ny right away? and did you meet your hubs here?! sorry for being nosy…i’m just really fascinated. we moved here when i was 12-going-on-13, but stayed in cali first.

Hi Abby! Got here through Weng. Thoroughly enjoyed skimming through your fabulous site :) Hope you don’t mind adding your site in my blogroll.

Have a blessed season ahead!

Hi Pinky, thanks for dropping by! Happy Holidays to you and your family! :)

Hello Abby. :-) Just stopped by to say hi as I am a big fan of NYC as well. I enjoy reading your posts about anything related to the city. Looking forward to more. Thanks.

hi, hope it’s ok that I added you to my blogroll. I enjoy reading your posts =) Am based in DC and just like you, I was pulled out of the Philippines right after I turned 18 and was only given 2 wks notice that we were leaving. Bummer! It was difficult but the lessons I learned (and still learning) are priceless.
